A big thank you/congratulations goes out to Amelia T. for presenting during our latest Developmental Assets presentation. Although this happened almost by accident (Amelia was attending the MHS PTA/Partnerships meeting initially, then came to join me at Wesleyan), her presentation was fantastic. She discussed her involvement with Upward Bound and how although she wasn't asked formally, she heard what the opportunity was all about and sought it out herself. It helped example that many young people look forward to challenges and we shouldn't assume, based on a profile or hunch, that someone might be/or not be interested in something. Although not meeting the profile because of how shy she is, Amelia spoke how the program has changed her life and helped her be much more prepared for college than she ever thought she'd be.
A special thanks to the Middletown Soroptimist club for inviting us to join them and have a great discussion around supporting Middletown youth.
ps just to clarify...the bright square on the wall is our presentation and not a supernatural portal to another dimension which it kind of looks like in the picture...
